Know 5 Common Dental Health Problems

Dental health problems are a common disease experienced by everyone. However, its emergence is often not realized, so many people are too late to handle it. If left unchecked, dental problems will get worse and may even be fatal for the sufferer.

Common Dental Health Problems

1. Cavities

Tooth decay is a dental health problem that almost everyone experiences. The danger, if left to severe, will occur infections that lead to death. Cavities are caused by the large number of bacteria that multiply in the mouth. These bacteria produce acids that erode the lining of the teeth, causing cavities.

If the process of erosion of the tooth layer gets deeper, then the pain will feel more painful. This condition is triggered by the consumption of sweet foods due to sugar which turns into bacteria because it sticks to the teeth. Well, the more sugar that sticks, the more acid is produced by bacteria. As a result, there is pain that leads to cavities.

2. Periodontitis (gum disease)

Periodontitis is a severe gum infection that occurs in the soft tissues and bones that support teeth. If left unchecked, this condition can cause tooth loss, as well as the entry of bacteria in the gum tissue into the bloodstream. If it is so, the bacteria can attack vital organs in the body, such as the heart and lungs. Here are some signs:

  • Swelling of the gums.
  • The presence of pus between the teeth and gums.
  • Breath becomes bad.
  • Missing or broken teeth. 
  • Red or purplish gums.
  • Gums are painful to the touch.
  • Reduced height of the gums, so the teeth look longer.
  • There is a cavity that forms between the teeth.
  • Feel the change in the teeth when biting.

3.Gingivitis

Gingivitis, also known as gingivitis, is an inflammation of the gums. Symptoms include:

  • Swelling of the gums.
  • The color of the gums becomes dark red.
  • Gums that are prone to bleeding when brushing teeth.
  • Bad breath.
  • The gums are scrunched up.

4. Dental Plaque

Dental plaque is a condition that occurs when bacteria or food debris sticks to and lives in the oral cavity. Plaque on the teeth that was originally yellow will harden and blacken, so that it looks like a rock attached to the teeth. This condition occurs as a result of rarely brushing your teeth, often eating sweet foods, rarely eating fruits and vegetables, and being lazy to check your teeth regularly.

5. Dental Erosion

Tooth erosion occurs when tooth enamel is eroded by acid. Tooth enamel is the hard protective layer of the tooth, which protects the sensitivity of the dentin. If the enamel is continuously eroded, the dentin underneath will be exposed, causing pain and sensitivity. Here are some things that trigger tooth erosion:

  • Consume soft drinks with a high citric acid content.
  • Often consume packaged fruit drinks.
  • Dry mouth or little saliva. This condition is known as xerostomia .
  • Frequent consumption of foods high in sugar and starch.
  • Rising stomach acid.
  • Have indigestion.
  • Frequent use of aspirin or antihistamines.
  • genetic factor.
  • Frequent friction on the teeth.
